Ivybridge Cricket Club - XI Reports & Scorecard
Ivybridge CC vs. Heathcoat CC - Saturday 28th July 2007
The rain affected Ivybridge for the second consecutive week, but this week it brought an end to both games for the club. With the first team at home against league leaders Heathcoat, Andy Johnson lost the toss, a regular occurrence this year, and were asked to bat first on a damp pitch.
Johnson and Gareth Andrews started well, with the second ball of the match being smashed through the covers for four. Andrews duly dispatched his first ball for four and the pair put on 43 for the first wicket, before Heathcoat’s South African, Sean Dick, came on from the pavilion end and found some late in-swing to bowl Johnson for 29.
Des Solomon then joined Andrews, Dick continued to bowl tight lines. Eventually forcing the pair to be stood next to each other from a ball Solomon worked behind square on the leg side. Solomon was called through by Andrews but stood his ground. The ball was thrown back to the bowler and an easy run out was taken by the visitors.
Karl Prescott was yet to get off the mark before Solomon played down the wrong line to a Dick out-swinger and lost his off stump, leaving The Ivies on 51-3 after 21 overs. Kelvin Trent then had partnerships with Karl Prescott, and then Chris Greenhouse, which swung the game in Ivybridge’s favour. Firstly, Prescott and Trent took to the fancy of Jack Menheneott and then Bryn Latchem. The pair added 32 in just seven overs, including a massive six from Prescott into the football ground before he fell, caught in the slips, at the third attempt, the very next ball for 20.
The steady Chris Greenhouse came to the crease and after his first 12 balls were dots, he played a run-a-ball innings of 42 after that before being stumped off the keepers pads in the last over. Before hand, Trent (28) had been caught behind after hitting a leading edge straight into the air. Andy Coker also fell before the end of the innings, bowled by Latchem having scored 12 off 13 balls. It was left to Adam Birch (2 not out) and Nick Gunn to finish the innings, with Gunn not facing a ball. Ivybridge posted a very good 166-7 after their 46 overs.
During the tea interval though, the rain hit and no more play was possible. Both teams taking eight points from the game.
