Ivybridge Cricket Club - 2nd XI Reports & Scorecard
Ivybridge CC vs. Heathcoat - Saturday 26th May 2007
Ivybridge’s second eleven faced the same opposition at Erme Playing Fields and skipper Andy Abraham inserted the visitors. Gareth Stuckey bowled a decent line and length early, but the attack struggled to take early wickets and had to rely on the profligacy of the batsman as several risky singles eventually led to a run out, with Parks being dismissed by a combination of skipper Abraham at mid-off and keeper Aidan Tookey.
Ivybridge managed to take regular wickets, but Heathcoat kept pressing and a quickfire 44 from Johnson (from just 28 balls) at the end of the innings left Ivybridge with an imposing 248 to chase. Andy Abraham had the most impressive bowling figures with 2 for 39.
After tea, Ivybridge got off to a bad start losing the in-form Tony Mailling to a ball that kept low. After Mike Tuckwell unlucky played on to his stumps chasing a wide delivery, the rot set in and Ivybridge lost five wickets for just nine runs to slump to 52 for 6.
Jeff Wakeham and Andy Abraham kept the visitors at bay though adding 47 before Wakeham (15) was trapped lbw. Abraham was then joined by youngster Josh Coker who showed good maturity to play a vital role in trying to save the game with his skipper. Coker (28) stayed with Abraham for 15 overs adding 68 in the process. At the other end, Abraham was playing the innings of a lifetime, passing fifty for the first time in his career with a six over mid-wicket.
Coker was eventually dismissed, which brought Abraham’s son Pete to the crease. Abraham junior took a leaf from his father’s book as he too defied the Heathcoat attack and the pair pushed Ivybridge to safety. In the process they took the score past 200 and the extra batting point in the last over.
