Ivybridge CC vs. Kentisbeare CC - Saturday 14th July 2007
The second team hosted bottom of the table Kentisbeare, and with Ivybridge captain Andy Abraham winning the toss, he had no hesitation of bowling first, as they have in every game this year so far. The bowlers didn’t disappoint their skipper, and even managed a bat before tea, as they ran through the visitors batting line up. Kentisbeare were eventually bowled out for 69 with Adam Warden being the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 for 6 off his six overs.
The ever consistent Gareth Stuckey (0 for 20 off 10 overs) and youngster Pete Abraham took the new ball, and with two runs off the first three overs, it was Abraham who made the first breakthrough, and ended up with figures of 3 for 10. Nick Thomas (2 for 26) and Josh Coker (1 for 3) took the remainder of the wickets in an innings that was over in just 30 overs.
Due to the quick dismissal of Kentisbeare, Ivybridge had half an hour before tea to come out and face the visitors bowling attack. Kevin Jacobs (4) and Toby Borrow (0) fell to Tony Darling, and Ivybridge were left at 20-2 at tea.
After tea, Tony Darling (5 for 22) was the only bowler to cause any trouble for the hosts as he picked up Sam Henderson (8), Ali Winstanley (10) and Tony Mailling (16), all in his 14 over spell. It was left to the young Josh Coker (9 not out) and the experience of Thomas (6 not out) to see Ivybridge home just after 6 o’clock and in just 28.2 overs. Ivybridge picked up a vital 17 points to push them away from the wrong end of the table.
