Ivybridge Cricket Club - 2nd XI Reports & Scorecard
Ivybridge CC vs. Plymstock CC - Saturday 11th August 2007
At Erme Valley, Ivybridge 2nd XI managed an upset as they took 20 points off the league leaders Plymstock. Having lost the toss, The Ivies were asked to field first and a maiden each for Gareth Stuckey and Paul Veale got Ivy off to a good start. Veale then made the breakthrough in his fifth over having Williams bowled, and then very next ball had the dangerman, Julian Brailey’s off stump out the ground. Veale had taken two wickets in two balls and his first five overs had yet to concede a run.
After an unsuccessful first spell from Stuckey, James Willacy replaced him and struck third ball with the help of a Josh Coker catch. Plymstock were left on 32-3. A 51 partnership between Hockeen and Record pushed Plymstock’s total up before good work from youngster Josh Mailling ran out Record. Stuckey returned and had Hockeen lbw and when Josh Mailling struck in his second over, Plymstock wwere now 99-6.
Dan Moffatt pushed the score towards 150 but he lost two partners in 5 balls as Josh Mailling picked up a 3 for. When Nick Gunn’s off spin picked up Moffatt and then number 11, Mitchell, Plymstock had been bowled out for 164.
Tony Mailling and young Alex Jeffery started solidly and reached 31 in 9 overs before Jeffery fell. Nick Kendrick fell very next ball as a leg side ball hit his back leg and ricocheted onto the stumps. Mike Tuckwell added 24 with Mailling before Barnicott got a ball through his defence to bowl Tuckwell.
Nick Gunn joined Mailling and the pair added 34 in just eight overs before Gunn fell to the same bit of misfortune as Kendrick. Tim Lancaster came and went for one, but Paul Veale got the score up to 125 before he was also bowled for just 13. This brought Josh Mailling to the crease to bat with his dad. A very good knock of 23 not out by Josh was enough to see the twos home with his dad 71 not out at the other end.
