Ivybridge Cricket Club - Events

Tour - Sunday 3 August - Thursday 7th August 2008

Dear Members,

I am writing to you to inform you of the plans that have been made regarding the proposed tour for the 2008 season. As most of you may be aware we had some problems last year getting people to commit so I am making things a bit stricter this year about numbers, deposits etc.

I am delighted to announce that we have decided to return to Bournemouth, as it’s a location that many of us have enjoyed on previous tours. We will be staying once again at the Old Vicarage Hotel in Hinton, which is somewhere that will be familiar to most regular tour members. A new owner is in place and has made several improvements to the hotel and improved the bar and restaurant facilities.

We will be leaving Ivybridge on Sunday 3rd August and returning on Thursday 7th August. We will be playing three games of cricket and I have looked into going to see Hampshire play Lancashire in a pro 40 game on the Sunday as we did the last time we went to Bournemouth.

The hotel has a limited number of places this year and can only currently sleep 14 people. I have managed to negotiate that they will provide four people with tented accommodation at a reduced rate. Price of hotel accommodation is £35 a night while price of tented accommodation is £12.50 a night. Both prices include a full English breakfast. I have provided a break down of approximately all costs at the bottom of the letter. Tickets for the Pro40 game can be purchased on the door so are not included in the price.

I understand this may cause an issue and am taking steps to ensure fairness for all. When paying your deposit I will ask you if you would want to go in a tent or sleep in the hotel. If more than four people prefer the tent option then those names will be drawn out of a hat and the four names will stay in the tent. The remaining people will stay in the hotel. By having a cheaper option we may get more people attending tour. I have spoken to a few of our poorer students and they would be more inclined to go for a cheaper rate.

I am going to have to limit the number of people in the tour party to 18 places because of the size of the hotel. Places will be booked on a first come first served basis and I will be asking for a deposit of £30 to guarantee your place. This deposit must be made by the Sat 11th May at the latest and must be made to either Jon Sparkes or myself.

No latecomers will be allowed on tour even if that means we don’t take the maximum number. The reason I have decided on this is that I wanted numbers confirmed as early as possible. I don’t want to have a repeat of last year where I ended up chasing people to commit one way or the other. Deposits are also non refundable and there will be further deadlines once I have the final numbers and names for tour.

I apologise if this letter seems quite strict but I am keen to avoid errors that occurred in previous years. I do assure you tour is great fun and for those non-drinkers among you I also assure you that touring is not all about getting drunk. I am sure that not everyone will want to go out all the time so please don’t feel that because you don’t drink you wont be welcome.

One issue to clarify early this year is that like last year all room names will be drawn a week before tour on sat 26th July so there can be no moaning or complaining about this issue. This applies for the people who stay in tents as well as the rest.

Price Breakdown

Hotel - £140
Tent - £50
Tour Polo Shirt (Colour TBA but not pink!!!!) £10
Coach to Rose Bowl – TBC but no more than £20

Total Cost – Max £170

I thank you all for your time and apologise for such a long letter and look forward to hearing from you soon

Regards

Ivybridge Cricket Club Golf Day @ Wrangaton Golf Course - Sunday 7th September 2008

The Event

The golf day will be held at Wrangaton Golf Club near Ivybridge. Wrangaton is a beautiful course made up of two different style elements. The front nine is a picturesque moorland course with some challenging holes. The back nine offers a change of scenery and the need to use some different golfing skills with a range of parkland holes.

Competition

The day will consist of a four-person team betterball stableford competition over eighteen holes. There will also be prizes for the longest drive and a closest to the pin on selected holes.

After the competition there will then be a two-course meal and a presentation ceremony with some top prizes on offer for the lucky winners.

Cost

The cost of the event will be £30 per person or ideally £120 per team of four players. If you are an existing member of Wrangaton Golf Club then the cost will be £15 per person.

All profits from the golf day will be designated by the club to help fund much needed ground maintenance equipment.  The club undertakes the maintenance of its own cricket square and is currently seeking to acquire a new roller and mower to enable us to improve the standard of our facilities.

If you would like to book a place, or have any queries, please contact me via the above contact details.  I am also enclosing a flier about the day incorporates a return slip if you wish to enter a team (or personally).

This should be a really fun day and we do hope you will be able to attend.

Yours sincerely
